Chargers News: AFC Columnist Taking Justin Herbert Over 2020 Draft Classmate

Justin lands in top 4 QB list according to this AFC North columnist

The fortunate of the Los Angeles Chargers all changed in the 2020 NFL Draft. LA had the sixth overall pick of the draft that season and had options to choose from.

One thing led to another in the first five picks, and they landed on their franchise quarterback, Justin Herbert. Herbert wasn't the starting QB at the start of the 2020 season but started in the second game, and his status as the QB1 was never in question ever again. Justin will be the franchise QB for years to come, and in his short stint in the NFL, he's already established himself as among the best in the league.

The talent level at the QB position is among the top in the positions; there are so many great and talented players it is hard to construct a list. Still, the Cleveland Browns insider for BrownsWire Cory Kinnan ranked all 32 NFL QBs, and out our very own Justin Herbert at number four in his list, in front of his fellow 2020 NFL Draft mate, number one overall pick that season, Joe Burrow.

4. Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers

Give me Herbert over Burrow all day. Now without the clutches of Joe Lombardi and now with Kellen Moore as his offensive coordinator, the Chargers can now beat the spamming of sticks allegations. And this should allow for Herbert’s average depth of target to finally reflect the bazooka and arm talent he has.

In front of Herbert are Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, and two-time MVP Patrick Mahomes. Many might be surprised by the Herbert over Burrow case, but it is debatable. Yes, Burrow has more team success making it to two AFC Championship games and a Super Bowl appearance, but they are neck and neck talent-wise.

Their numbers from 2022 were virtually identical, with similar completion percentages and QBR; however, Herbert had the edge in yards and interceptions.

The battle and debate between the two will go on forever. They will always be linked to one another, and hopefully, we could see them duke it out in the postseason for years to come, so this can be settled on the gridiron.
