Big news for the Los Angeles Chargers, as NFL Insider Ian Rapoport of NFL Network has reported that former Ravens and 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman is expected to join Jim Harbaugh's staff with the Bolts.

Roman has an impressive track record that features a series of top offenses, including that of the Harbaugh-led 49ers, the 2019 Baltimore Ravens, and more.

Having worked under Harbaugh with the 49ers, the two have some great familiarity. Roman is a run-heavy offensive mind, utilizing the power run scheme in an effort to open up the passing game.

His specific role with the Bolts remains uncertain, but as it pertains to his track record, he's called offenses with quarterbacks that range from decent to good passers (at best) – nowhere near the level of Justin Herbert. His insight into the run game should add an element of explosiveness, versatility and complexity to a previously simple Bolts' offense.

This also all but assures that the Bolts spend a fairly early draft pick on a running back – perhaps Blake Corum of Michigan, assuming Austin Ekeler is out the door in free agency. A dynamic running back will be needed to instill any of Roman's offensive values into the organization. Either way, this is a big pickup for the Chargers.
