Chargers News: Bolts Officially Hire Jesse Minter as DC
The Los Angeles Chargers have found their new defensive coordinator, Jim Harbaugh's good old friend, Jesse Minter.
According to senior NFL reporter Albert Breer, the Chargers have finalized the hire of the Michigan defensive coordinator as their new defensive coordinator.
Minter said goodbye to Michigan on Tuesday via social media post. He will replace former defensive coordinator Derrick Ansley, who served one year as the DC.
The 40-year-old coordinator spent two years at Michigan, where he helped guide the program to their first title in 26 years. Minter also has NFL experience under his belt, specifically with Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh's brother, John Harbaugh, head coach of the Baltimore Ravens.
He served as the defensive assistant with the Ravens from 2017-2018, the assistant defensive back coach in 2019, and the defensive backs coach in 2020 before heading to Vanderbilt and then to Michigan.
Minter had plenty of other NFL teams on his tail, including the Philadelphia Eagles for their defensive coordinator job. There was a rumor he would join Harabugh in Los Angeles, and that all came to fruition on Tuesday.
Minter is expected to bring to Los Angeles that tough-nosed, rugged defense he ran in Michigan. It's an excellent hire by the organization, and Charger fans should be elated by the hire.
