Chargers News: Bolts Rookie WR Fulfills Promise He Made to His Mother
The Los Angeles Chargers took an offensive route during the 2023 NFL Draft. The Chargers selected TCU WR Quentin Johnston with the 21st overall pick in the first round of the draft. LA made Johnston's dream come true that night and is set to play a significant role with the Bolts this season.
Like many other players, they are surrounded by their families and loved ones on draft day. They celebrate when their name is called and embrace their family in front of the cameras, and it's a heartwarming moment. When Johnston's name was called, and he donned the Chargers' hat, he promised his mother that she could retire so he could take care of her from here on out.
Johnston is a man of his word as his mother is now retired and no longer needs to work a day of her life. The 21-year-old rookie spoke with the media at rookie minicamp and expressed what it meant to him to make it come true.
It means the world to me. I’m a big family person. Obviously, growing up, I wouldn’t be in this position I am today if it wasn’t for both of my parents and the sacrifices that they made, getting me to and from different games, different practices, different events when they had stuff planned already. I would’ve done the same thing for my dad, but my dad was already retired, so I just gave him a pat on the back right there. To give back to them and see the look on their faces, it’s everything.
The Texas native expressed how much family means to him and the sacrifices both his parents made to be sure to secure their sons' dreams. This kind of action goes to show what kind of person the Chargers acquired, and this type of attitude and kindness could take him a long way.
We're glad Johnston is on our side and happy for him and his family.
