Chargers News: Brandon Staley Applauds Defense's Composure in Back-to-Back Late Games

Crucial for both team wins.

The Chargers defense once again prove their worth with the game on the line after their head coach Brandon Staley put them behind the eight ball again in Week 4.

Staley followed the team's victory on Sunday with praise for his defensive unit after another interception to seal a Bolts' win in consecutive weeks.

"Our team is comfortable in those situations. We talk about the NFL and the way it is. Through four weeks, I think 70 percent of the games are [decided by] less than a touchdown. That's the NFL," Staley said. "You have to be good when you have to have it. You have to be comfortable in those spaces. Our guys have thrived in that the last couple of weeks," Staley added. "I think that, especially defensively, the way we've played, you can see that that's a connected unit. We've made a lot of plays to win us the game."

Staley once again opted to go for it on a fourth down and one deep in his territory with just minutes remaining.

Injured QB Justin Herbert failed to pick up the first down, giving Vegas a short field and three minutes left to tie the game down by seven.

Raiders rookie signal caller Aidan O'Connell got the team in a goal-to-go situation near the two-minute warning, and all looked lost for Staley's bunch.

However, LA corner Asante Samuel Jr. refused to take a loss this past weekend and picked the young passer off after he misread Raider receiver Jakobi Meyers's route.

The pick didn't entirely seal the game for LA, and they still had to grab a first down to ice it at Sofi, but Herbert came to Staley's rescue once again after a beautiful deep ball to Joshua Palmer.

Charger fans likely would prefer a smoother ride to victory on most weeks, but the Brandon Staley experience refuses to allow such a reality for those who support them.
