I know, I know... anytime the words quarterback and Chargers are mentioned in the same sentence, the name Justin Herbert follows up 99% of the time. The 25-year-old star is entering his fourth season at the head of the Bolts' offense and has a big year ahead of him.

Even though LA had one of the worst endings to their 2022 campaign, Herbert has a number of goals on his checklist for the new season and they should include a deeper playoff run, an MVP finalist, and the passing yards leader. He is going to be playing within a brand-new offense thanks to the hiring of Kellen Moore and it's safe to say that he'll have more weapons than ever to choose from with each play.

However, the elephant in the room always has to be addressed and that would be injuries. The Chargers became quite familiar with them last season and Herbert himself had to play through multiple and even get shoulder surgery immediately once the offseason hit.

Therefore, LA needs to be prepared for any twist that may happen throughout the weeks in which they're playing official games. They've done a great job at filling out their roster but experts from Last Word on Sports believe that they could look to the free agent market to sign an experienced QB to play a backup role in Carson Wentz.

It has been quite some years removed since Wentz was an MVP finalist behind Tom Brady and Todd Gurley and won a Super Bowl. However, he is still a very serviceable option and columnist David Latham believes he'd be better behind Herbert than LA's current options.

"If something happened to Herbert, then Easton Stick and Max Duggan would battle for the starting position. Quite simply, you can’t have that if you want to compete for the playoffs. Carson Wentz is easily better than both of those players, and the free agent is capable of keeping the ship afloat if Herbert needs to miss a few weeks due to an injury."(Via Last Word On Sports)

Wentz played just eight games in 2022 and recorded 1,755 passing yards. We'll have to see if LA believes he can thrive in their system as well!
