Chargers News: Columnist Lists Roster Changes to Expect from LA When JC Jackson Returns
J.C. Jackson has been sharing a ton of interesting updates regarding his upcoming return to the Los Angeles Chargers this coming season. He only got so suit up in five games in 2022 after signing a large contract with the franchise due to a ruptured patellar tendon and we barely saw any flashes of how he could truly transcend the team's defense.
However, he has been in the gym all offseason long... really ever since he was cleared to do so after his surgery. Jackson has made it clear that he feels like he has a ton to prove to his new teammates and that he never wants to let them like he did months ago. He'll be taking the field with the likes of Khalil Mack, Eric Kendricks and Derwin James on defense so it'll be huge to see how he plugs in there.
Jackson hopes to fully participate in training camp once it rolls around in a couple weeks and also is aiming to return to the Bolts when their week one matchup is here against the Miami Dolphins. However, we have to remember that the Bolts looked to other guys last season when Jackson got hurt and now that he's coming back, things will change.
The Athletic's Daniel Popper listed a number of roster moves to expect.
" When Jackson is back on the field, he would presumably replace Samuel at outside corner. I think Davis has earned his starting role on the outside. Samuel was a liability in run defense last season, and that could impact his role in 2023 with Jackson back in the fold."
"Taylor is a bigger and better run defender than Samuel. Run defense is an important aspect of playing as a slot defender — or Star, in Staley’s verbiage. At the very least, Jackson returning would give Staley plenty of options in how he sets up his corners. Jackson and Davis would man the outside. Taylor and Samuel could rotate in the slot depending on week-to-week matchups or even specific packages, downs and distances within a game."

Options are always great for the Chargers... we'll have to see what they roll with!
