The Los Angeles Chargers could be in the market for a running back if they do not retain Austin Ekeler for the 2024 season.

One star running back they could target is Tennessee Titans' Derrick Henry. If Henry does not stay with the Titans, he should be a coveted rusher for several teams. While the running back market is grim these days, Henry is a special back.

Currently, the Chargers have the fourth-best odds to acquire Henry if he leaves the Titans, with +1200 odds per Bet Online. Only the Baltimore Ravens (+200), Philadelphia Eagles (+500), and Minnesota Vikings (+900) have better odds to get Henry if he leaves Tennessee.

Henry has had one of the best running backs over the last eight years. Henry is a former Offensive Player of the Year, first-team All-Pro, and a four-time Pro Bowler. Henry has led the NFL in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns twice in his career.

Of course, his best season came in 2020, when he became just the eighth running back to rush for over 2,000 yards in NFL history. Though Henry is removed from that peak season, he still has posted back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2022 and 2023.

Henry could also fit the Chargers' offense now that Greg Roman is the team's offensive coordinator. Roman's teams always feature a strong running game, and Henry would be a dream player to pair with Roman.

The primary concern for Henry will be his age, now that he is 30. Age 30 is practically considered elderly for a running back, and few rushers have proven effective at this point in their careers. Henry could be an outlier — as he is in almost every other area as a player — but acquiring him does come with some risk.
