Chargers News: Jim Harbaugh's System Could See Notable Offensive Weapon Not Return
As the Los Angeles Chargers get ready for free agency to begin, they have some decisions to make regarding some of their own talent. One of those players is tight end Gerald Everett, who has been with the team for the last two seasons.
He has been a reliable weapon for quarterback Justin Herbert, somewhat acting like a security blanket at times. But with new head coach Jim Harbaugh now in the mix, Everett could be shown the door due to his lack of blocking abilities.
"Each Everett catch has the potential to be a highlight, primarily because of his explosiveness after the catch. He averaged 5.4 yards after the catch, often bulldozing multiple defenders with his 6-foot-3, 250-pound frame. Everett's weakness comes as a blocker, which the Chargers will need in Harbaugh's offense because of its rushing focus."
Per Kris Rhim of ESPN
Harbaugh is known for having prolific running attacks with his offenses, something that he wants to implement with the Bolts. But in order to do that, a team needs a strong blocking tight end to work with.
Everett is more known for his catching abilities, so it could see him not returning to Los Angeles. But the Bolts could also get creative by bringing back Everett and another right end to use a two-tight-end system.
He has been a leader for this Chargers team over the years, so it could make sense to bring him back. Everett has been productive as well, giving him a potential advantage in this case.
