Chargers News: Keenan Allen Was Almost Traded to AFC South Squad Instead of Bears
The Los Angeles Chargers traded away arguably their best wide receiver in franchise history, six-time Pro Bowler Keenan Allen.
Allen is now a Chicago Bear, and it will be odd to see him wearing any other uniform but a Charger one. The only upside to this is that he will be in another conference. However, there was a shot he could've stayed in the AFC and been a part of this up-and-coming team.
According to Aaron Wilson, who covers the NFL and Houston Texans, the Texans were close to trading for the former Comeback Player of the Year.
Not only would a potential trade to the Texans have made the team more of a threat, but it would've hurt the Chargers' playoff hopes significantly.
The Texans are coming off a season where they won their division and made it to the divisional round. They've upgraded significantly this offseason, and adding Allen would have made them scarier.
Houston was in the middle of the pact in many offensive categories, a major upgrade from the previous season, thanks to their star rookie quarterback, CJ Stroud. Allen would have taken that offense to another level; instead, he will look to do it in Chicago with either Justin Fields or potential number-one draft pick Caleb Williams.
The 31-year-old is already sorely missed among Bolt fans. We wish him the best in his next journey. I'm sure many fans are happy he is not in the same conference, at least.
