Chargers News: LA Head Coach Enthusiastic About Training Camp's Competitive Zeal
Ahead of the Chargers' first preseason matchup, the work to hoist Lombardi always starts in July.
Bolts' head coach Brandon Staley had much to say about the most recent practices for the blue and gold.
"We are where we expect to be, which is that we want that practice field to be alive, we want there to be the consistency of the playmaking and the competition, overall execution. I think we're developing the depth in special teams, which is so important to your club. We've been able to get a lot of good evaluation out there.

Execution is the word that sticks out after a season mired in inconsistency for the Chargers that was only punctuated by an utter second-half collapse against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC Wild Card round.
The Chargers looked to correct some of these issues in the offseason after a failure to launch in the second half of the game, paired with the defensive breakdowns that ultimately doomed the team's championship hopes right where they stood.
Quentin Johnston's selection to the team with their first-round pick should help the offense, as should Eric Kendricks to the defensive side of the ball.
Paired with health for Rashawn Slater, Khalil Mack, and other stars in the trenches, Staley is only looking ahead to 2023.
"With some of these linemen being out on both sides, we've been able to really evaluate them against good people. The preseason is about finding out who that best 53 is, but I like the way this team is coming together. This team cares about each other, you can see it. We're competing the right ways. There are a lot of special players out there. I just think both sides of the ball are making each other better, and that's what I expect."

Staley seems to believe in this group, and so should the loyal Angelinos at SoFi Stadium this season.
