Chargers WR Coach Chris Beatty spoke with Chargers.com recently about the upcoming season and things that he is looking forward too. Among that, he mentioned how he likes that the receiving core compliments each other well and how it translate to success out on the field.

"They compliment each other so well. Mike has been one of those guys, he takes coaching, too. Like Keenan you make some suggestions, while Mike is just like, 'Tell me what you want and I'll do what you want.' And so you can see his game over the last two years really blossom because we've asked a lot more of him than maybe he was asked in the first couple of years and his game's taken off from it. I think he's accepted that really well. No one goes for 50/50 balls like Mike does, so we're always 80/20 when you're throwing them to Mike up there. Him and Justin have a great feel for that."

Beatty is dead on when talking about the different wide receivers that the Bolts have and how they work well together. Both Keenan Allen and Mike Williams play different games and it just works. Allen gives quarterback Justin Herbert more of a possession type of receiver. He is the guy that will rack up catches and is a third down type of guy.

Williams has the ability to do that as well but he is able to space out the field and has the skillset that allows him to go up and get those 50/50 balls, much like Beatty was talking about. It's something that not all receivers have but gives this Chargers offense a much need element.

In the NFL, you need different types of receivers if you want to win. For example, look at the Cincinnati Bengals and how they have stacked their guys. Ja'Marr Chase is the possession guy who can rack up yards easily. Tee Higgins is the guy who can go up and get the 50/50 ball, while also being able to open the field up. Los Angeles's receivers aren't on the same level as the Bengals guys but they have a similar build.

This unit is close and ready to dominate in 2023. With Herbert leading the charge, everyone will eat. Both Allen and Williams want to win and are willing to take the backseat for a game if it means getting the victory. It's a special mindset to have and a big reason as to why the Chargers are one of the teams being looked at as a potential Super Bowl team in the AFC.
