Chargers News: NFL Columnist Believes This Player Was Secret Sauce For Win Over Raiders
Boooooo, it's bye week. The worst week for fans of a team, but you could say it came at the right time for your Los Angeles Chargers.
Star running back Austin Ekeler is dealing with an ankle injury, and he's missed the last three games. However, with no game this weekend and already three games rested, he should be back on the gridiron come Week 6. It also allows the LA's other star players, Derwin James, and Joey Bosa, to rest up and be back next week.
More importantly, it allows their star QB Justin Herbert to rest up his fractured finger on his left hand after injuring it in the third quarter of their win this past Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Heading into the blue tent is never what you want to see, especially from your quarterback, and that was the case with Herbert against the Raiders. He finished the game with his left hand wrapped up and with a glove on it.
Herbert mustered all his strength to finish the game and put his team over the top. Although the 25-year-old star QB didn't have the best of games, he propelled LA to a much-needed win, and more importantly, he didn't miss a series after suffering the injury.
NFL columnist for the San Diego Tribune Tom Krasovic believes that Herbert was the secret sauce to get the win over Las Vegas.
It was left to Herbert to make sure the Raiders (1-3) wouldn’t get the ball back. He did so on third-and-10 from the 11.
Unfazed by the left-hand injury that put a splint on his middle fingers, the righty responded with an “arm strength” throw to receiver Josh Palmer, who got away with a pushoff on the go route.
So what the Chargers harvested Sunday was another “quarterback victory.” They’ve drawn upon several of those every year for some two decades now.

You want your quarterback to be tough and to withstand everything and anything in his way, and Herbert has become known to do that. He is as tough as nails, and the Chargers are lucky to have him on their side.
We'll see what else Herbert can pull out his magic hat as the season progresses.
