Chargers Won't Lack Identity Under Kellen Moore

A change in mindset with a new coordinator.

A headache for fans and players alike, last year's Bolts' offense under Joe Lombardi predictably collapsed in their playoff loss to Jacksonville with just six points in the second half of their eventual 24-point blown lead.

Bringing in fresh blood through former Cowboys' offensive mind in Kellen Moore, many players are encouraged by the early returns of their new coordinator, which have been quite great.

“We want to be the aggressors,” tight end Gerald Everett said. “We want to be one of those teams that people are afraid to play. We want to be known for putting up points and gaining a ton of yards.”

After a year mired in mediocrity and a failure to launch at the worst possible times, the Bolts' skill position group are now in a position to thrive under Moore's system.

With Justin Herbert leading the charge as one of the best arms in the game, firework shows could be back on the menu at SoFi Stadium this season.

Quentin Johnston's introduction into the fold among veterans like Everett, Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, and Austin Ekeler should only help in this regard, as the rookie will join one of the best group of weapons in the NFL.

Expectations for the Chargers haven't just been raised on offense as the defensive side of the ball, as additions on that front have been made this season.

Already with stars such as Derwin James, Joey Bosa, and Khalil Mack on defense, the Chargers brought in Eric Kendricks as a steady veteran for their linebacking core that struggled to tackle in the middle of the field last year.

All the pieces are in place for a successful 2023, where expectations for the Chargers have never been higher.

As the Chiefs have never looked more vulnerable, LA wants to make good on such an opportunity by winning the AFC West this season.
