KC Chiefs' Travis Kelce Pokes Fun at Las Vegas Raiders Ahead of 'The Match'
The Kansas City Chiefs have right around a month before 2023 training camp rolls around, so this is the last opportunity players will have to have some offseason fun in advance of preparations for the season ramping back up. The duo of Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce has made plenty of waves over the past few months, and this week is another window for headlines to be made.
Kelce and Mahomes were at Hawaii's Club at Hokuli'a over the weekend for Mahomes's offseason Aloha Golf Classic, an effort that benefits his 15 and the Mahomies Foundation. This came less than a week before the two will be in Las Vegas for this latest edition of Capital One's The Match, which is set to take place on Thursday evening. Kelce caught up with Steve Wyche of NFL Network on Sunday, reminding the world that he and Mahomes have yet to lose when in Vegas. He also took a playful jab at the division rival Las Vegas Raiders in the process.
"The message right now is we've never lost in Vegas. On the golf course, as a team, we beat everybody at Justin Timberlake's golf tournament. And then, obviously, the Raiders. We haven't lost to the Raiders yet — I don't even want to say yet. We just haven't lost in Vegas, so that's the bottom line."
Kelce's analysis is spot-on, and he's had his fair share of success against the Raiders since they moved into Las Vegas and their new home at Allegiant Stadium. Back in November of 2020, in a 35-31 Chiefs win, the star tight end hauled in eight passes for 127 yards and a touchdown. Just under a year later, he had another eight receptions and topped the 100-yard receiving mark once again. Last season, the Chiefs' 18-point blowout win came even without Kelce having a monster game (six catches for 38 yards).
It remains to be seen whether the Mahomes-Kelce duo can get the job done once again, as NBA stars Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors opened as heavy odds-on favorites to win The Match. With that said, Mahomes's annual golf tournament came at a good time and could be just the tune-up he and his teammate needed ahead of what should be another instant classic in one of the most popular cities in the country.
