In the 2023 calendar year alone, the Kansas City Chiefs have won a world championship, celebrated at the White House, enjoyed a red-carpet ring ceremony and much more. While it was made clear by quarterback Patrick Mahomes last month that it's time to move forward, the franchise had to pick up one last accolade before training camp begins.

On Wednesday night, it was announced that the Chiefs won the 2023 ESPY award for Best Team.

This is the first time that the Chiefs have won the ESPY for Best Team, becoming the first NFL club since the 2021 Tampa Bay Buccaneers to take home the honor. Kansas City received the award over the championship-caliber Denver Nuggets (NBA), Georgia Bulldogs (NCAA Football), Las Vegas Aces (WNBA), Louisiana State Tigers (NCAA Women's Basketball), Oklahoma Sooners (NCAA Softball) and Vegas Golden Knights (NHL). Earlier on Wednesday, Mahomes won Best NFL Player and Best Male Athlete

This past Chiefs season was one for the ages, as Andy Reid's squad posted a 14-3 regular season record on the backs of Mahomes (5,250 yards and 41 passing touchdowns), tight end Travis Kelce (1,338 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns), defensive tackle Chris Jones (15.5 sacks) and multiple others. General manager Brett Veach took a calculated risk when he opted for a youth movement and also sent wide receiver Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins, which ultimately ended up paying off big-time in the playoffs.

In three games spanning across January and February, Kansas City defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars, Cincinnati Bengals and Philadelphia Eagles en route to a world championship. It was one of the best years in franchise history, bringing the Chiefs their third Lombardi Trophy and landing Mahomes and Reid the second rings of their legendary careers. Now, everyone in the organization can stake claim to getting recognized one last time before the season.
