KC Chiefs Place WR Skyy Moore on Injured Reserve List
The 2023 season has been a roller coaster of a ride for the Kansas City Chiefs' wide receiver room, and the situation is taking another turn before a Week 16 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Per a Monday afternoon announcement from the team, wide receiver Skyy Moore has been placed on the injured reserve list. He's out for the rest of the regular season at a minimum.
Moore, a second-round pick in last year's NFL Draft, dealt with a knee injury in Sunday afternoon's win over the New England Patriots. Head coach Andy Reid said after the game that his knee "swelled up" on him. Moore played just 16 snaps in the victory, his second-lowest mark of the season thus far.
It's been tough sledding for Moore as of late. Dating back to a Week 13 game against the Green Bay Packers, the Western Michigan product has just three targets and one catch for five yards. He's gone back-to-back weeks without a catch registered in the box score. Moore did haul in a Patrick Mahomes pass on Sunday and subsequently fumbled, although a penalty wiped away the play. After posting 22 receptions for 250 yards in 16 games as a rookie, Moore's second career regular season will end with him logging 21 catches for 244 yards and a touchdown on 182 more snaps.
Without Moore in the fold, the Chiefs have a few routes they can take at the receiver position. A roster spot was needed for second-year man Justyn Ross to officially return once his roster exemption no longer applied, and Reid said on Monday that the process is being evaluated this week. Ross, though, is a relative unknown and has just three receptions for 34 yards this year. Richie James is also an option to be given more snaps in the rotation.
Elsewhere, Mecole Hardman was placed on IR before the team's Week 12 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. His required four-game absence is now over, making him eligible to have his 21-day practice window opened. Once that happens, the team can see where Hardman is at and decide whether to bring him back to the active 53-man roster.
