TMZ reported that Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay was found unresponsive, with an overdose suspected in December.

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay was reportedly found in an unresponsive state at his home in Carmel, Ind. last month, according to TMZ.

The report mentions that Carmel Police were dispatched to Irsay’s residence on Dec. 8 at 4:30 am to find him blue and gasping for air, potentially from a suspected overdose. He was later taken to a local hospital.

There are likely more details to come forward from this story. Regardless, this is an unfortunate turn of events for the Irsay family and Jim himself, who is a recovering addict. He recently was interviewed by Andrea Kremer of Real Sports detailing his journey through the battle with addiction.

Earlier this month following a noticeable public absence by Irsay, the Colts released a statement on Irsay's health, saying he was being treated for severe respiratory illness:

Jim Irsay is currently being treated for a severe respiratory illness. While this unfortunately means he won't be able to perform with his band this week in Los Angeles, he is receiving excellent care and looks forward to returning to the stage as soon as possible. We’ll have no additional information at this time and we ask that you respect the privacy of Jim and his family as he recovers.

Irsay is one of the biggest driving forces behind the "Kicking the Stigma" movement that highlights mental health and addiction recovery.

He’s also arguably one of the most involved and open owners the NFL has seen recently, often speaking his mind on difficult topics and engaging with fans on social media. There is truly no other league owner in the mix like Irsay, and probably won't be for the foreseeable future.

The most important thing now is the health and well-being of Irsay and that, if affected by an overdose, he gets the treatment and care needed to make a full recovery while he's surrounded by his family.
