The Indianapolis Colts and Jonathan Taylor contract drama might be coming to a close.

Monday on the Pat McAfee Show, NFL insider Ian Rapoport said, “There is real interest in Jonathan Taylor, and I would say it’s likely he gets traded. As long as the offer is good enough, I think a trade probably gets done.”

Rapoport would also say, “I think it’s more likely he gets traded than he stays (in Indianapolis).”

This new information from one of the most trusted NFL insiders shows that the situation with Taylor could be nearing an end, with Taylor getting his wish granted of finding a new team.

While there is still a chance that the 4:00pm ET deadline on Aug. 29 will come around and Taylor will still be a Colt, it seems more likely as the hours pass that he will be in a new city and a new uniform for the 2023 season.

With players like Evan Hull, Deon Jackson, and Zack Moss making up the backfield behind Taylor, it is starting to look as if that will be the committee that Indianapolis will roll out should the superstar back find a new home and a trade deal gets done.

There’s also been word of the Colts having interest in free agent running back Kareem Hunt, who they had a meeting with weeks before this news.

Given that Colts head coach Shane Steichen used a committee approach last season with the Philadelphia Eagles, albeit with a stronger offensive line, it may not be as big of a blow to the team as previously thought.

Hull and Jackson have had great training camps and preseason performances. Moss will likely jump right back into a prominent role after he recovers from his broken arm that was suffered near the beginning of training camp.

Should Hunt be added to the roster with a possible Taylor trade, he would likely take over the lead-back duties, and the aforementioned trio of players would complement him.

Outlook

As the deadline for cuts approaches, it will be paramount to keep up with the news and updates with the Colts and Taylor as they find a way to make everyone happy involved with the situation.

Colts fans are excited with a new coach, quarterback, and energy in Lucas Oil Stadium. Unfortunately, they may need to imagine this fresh era of Indianapolis football without one of the team’s most dynamic playmakers on the squad for 2023 and beyond.
