Former Chiefs, Browns Running Back Set to Visit Colts
Kareem Hunt visited with the New Orleans Saints today as the team is currently searching for a running back now due to the suspension handed out to star running back Alvin Kamara.
One of the best overall players left on the market is not stopping there, though. Hunt also has a visit set for the Indianapolis Colts tomorrow morning.
"Source: FA Kareem Hunt had a great visit with the #Saints and is now on his way to Indianapolis to meet with the #Colts tomorrow," NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said in a Tweet Tuesday afternoon.
There had been reports that Hunt was signing with the Saints, but those were later refuted. ESPN's Dianna Russini explained that while the Saints offered him a contract, the Colts were in on Hunt even before that.
"How about this twist?," Russini tweeted out. "RB Kareem Hunt was called by Indy before he even stepped foot on the field to work out for the Saints and was offered more money, per source. He was advised to leave and head to Indy with the Colts for a visit."
The Colts are also in the midst of a contract dispute with star running back Jonathan Taylor, who is dealing with an ankle injury that has sidelined him for nearly nine months. The Colts recently just signed Kenyan Drake, and now with the possible addition of Hunt, they may be signaling that they don’t see an end to this Taylor situation in sight.
Hunt has been very good in his last four years with the Cleveland Browns, where he split time with star running back Nick Chubb serving primarily as a third-down back. With Zack Moss injured, Hunt can possibly play a big role in this downhill, attacking run game the Colts plan to have this season. Hunt can also be a plus in the blocking game as a pass protector.
The Colts are gearing up to play the long game with Taylor, and it seems like this is only the beginning.
