Indianapolis Colts Week 14 NFL Power Rankings

Where do the Indianapolis Colts check in on the NFL Power Rankings after pushing their winning streak to four games?
In this story:

The Indianapolis Colts are on a four-game-winning streak, tied for best in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers.

It took overtime for them to vanquish the 4-8 Tennessee Titans in Nashville, and NFL.com was hesitant to move them up their Week 14 NFL Power Rankings.

The Colts held steady at No. 13. However, they didn't get leapfrogged by another team. Eric Edholm is worried about the Colts' rushing attack after being held in check by the Titans.

With Jonathan Taylor potentially set to miss multiple games, Indianapolis has to figure out its run game quickly. Zack Moss has done a pretty remarkable job replacing Taylor this season, but Sunday was a step back for the Colts’ ground attack. They had a long run of 5 yards and averaged 2.4 yards per carry against the Titans. As a result, the Colts were 1-for-5 in the red zone, converting their first TD in that part of the field on the final play of the game.

Gardner Minshew had a strong game rallying the Colts, and Michael Pittman Jr. and Alec Pierce came up with some huge grabs in crunch time. The Colts deserve some credit for beating a division foe that was undefeated at Nissan Stadium, with the special teams as a huge catalyst, to extend their win streak to four games. But this was a little too close for comfort for an Indy team that lacks some tiebreakers and still needs to stack more wins to be safely in the playoffs. -- Eric Edholm, NFL.com

ESPN moved the Colts up two spots in their Week 14 NFL Power Rankings. However, they weren't as high on the Colts to begin with. The Colts jumped from No. 18 to No. 16 on ESPN.

Colts beat writer Stephen Holder was asked to pick a player that was a pleasant surprise. He chose offensive guard Will Fries.

It was surprising when the Colts did little to upgrade their offensive line starters after a rough season in 2022. But the ascent of Fries, a 2021 seventh-round selection, has helped validate that decision. According to ESPN data, only one Colts lineman -- Pro Bowl center Ryan Kelly -- has given up fewer than the three sacks Fries has allowed. Fries has also been durable. He and guard Quenton Nelson are the only members of the unit to start every game. -- Stephen Holder, ESPN

The Colts have another-road test next week against the Cincinnati Bengals (6-6). That game looks tougher all of a sudden after the Bengals went to Jacksonville and knocked off the Jaguars 34-31 on Monday Night Football.

The Jaguars lost quarterback Trevor Lawrence in the loss to the Bengals and fell to 8-4. The Colts trail the Jaguars by one game in the standings and have a one game lead on the Broncos, Bengals, and Bills in the AFC Wildcard race.

Jacksonville holds the tie breaker with the Colts because of head to head matchups, but all of a sudden, Indianapolis finds itself in the hunt for the AFC South.

Next week's game in Cincinnati just got a little more interesting. The Colts hold their destiny in their hands, and now they can look ahead in the AFC South standings as well as behind in the wildcard chase.
