Jonathan Taylor is Back in a Big Way, Contract News

It's been a big day for Jonathan Taylor and the Indianapolis Colts. New contract details revealed.

The Indianapolis Colts and Jonathan Taylor have been at a standoff for the better part of the last six months. All's well that ends well though.

Moments after announcing Taylor had been activated from the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, news of a massive-new contract extension broke.

NFL Insider Ian Rapoport has reported that the Indianapolis Colts and running back Jonathan Taylor have agreed to terms on a contract extension after a long and drawn-out negotiation between the two parties.

Rapoport posted: “The Colts and star RB Jonathan Taylor have agreed to terms on a massive 3-year, $42M extension, locking him in at the top of the RB market and mending fences after a tumultuous period. $26.5M guaranteed. Deal done by agents @MalkiKawa and Ethan Lock of @firstroundmgmt.”

This is a massive boost for a Colts team that wanted to pair Taylor with dynamic quarterback Anthony Richardson in a diverse offense like Shane Steichen’s.

After Taylor’s agent Malki Kawa and Colts owner Jim Irsay seemed to be at opposite ends of an agreement for months, it appears that the waters have calmed and everything is behind the running back and both parties can move forward amicably.

Taylor will look to bounce back from a rough 2022 when he only played 11 games due to an ankle injury and didn't eclipse 1,000 rushing yards for the first time in his three-year career.

Now, Taylor gets to familiarize himself with Richardson and Steichen’s new offensive approach. If Taylor can return to his 2021 form in any capacity this Colts offense could start to become more explosive, efficient, and varying in their strategy against opposing defenses.

With Taylor on slate to play as soon as Sunday against the Tennessee Titans in the Week 5 home game at Lucas Oil Stadium, it appears that Colts fans won’t need to wait long to see number 28 on the field after not being sure if he’d ever return.
