Commanders Rookie OL Ricky Stromberg 'Fired Up' to Join Washington

Ricky Stromberg is incredibly excited to be drafted by the Washington Commanders.

The Washington Commanders have had a revolving door at the center position in recent years, making it a priority to address in the 2023 NFL Draft. Washington checked off the box at the end of the third round, selecting Arkansas center Ricky Stromberg with the No. 97 overall pick.

Stromberg had a productive and successful top-30 visit with the Commanders, so he wasn't all that surprised to see Washington take him with the pick.

“Yeah, I had an idea," Stromberg said. "I mean, when I went and visited Coach [Travelle] Wharton and Coach [Eric] Bieniemy, when I met with all them, I felt pretty good about it. I felt there was a connection when I went up there. I love the place. I think Virginia's a beautiful state. I love the facility. I loved everything about it. I feel like it connected well, but the draft is the draft, and so, I mean, who knows what happens. I was just waiting to see what happened and I think this is God's plan. I think he picked it out. It's his plan, so it's gonna be the right one. I'm so fired up.”

Stromberg started 44 games at Arkansas, including a streak of 25 straight. In his four seasons as a Razorback, he only allowed four sacks.

Stromberg's excitement to join the team is welcomed as he looks to compete for the starting center job this offseason alongside incumbent starter Chase Roullier and free agent acquisition Nick Gates.
