Commanders Rookie Ricky Stromberg Brings 'Quality Depth' to Washington

The Washington Commanders have a plan to make Ricky Stromberg a prominent part of their offensive line.
In this story:

The Washington Commanders don't know where third-round rookie Ricky Stromberg will play on the offensive line ... but they are totally okay with that.

Stromberg started his collegiate career at Arkansas playing both left and right guard as a freshman in 2019, but he ultimately found his way to the middle of the line at center. His versatility is a big reason why the Commanders took him with the No. 97 overall pick.

"Ricky's going to compete," head coach Ron Rivera said. "He has some position flex, he played guard as well. So he's a guy that we really think is going to come in and add some quality depth and we'll see how things go. But he is a very bright, very smart guy. And I think Martin got a really good sense because like I said, I think Martin was the guy that spent most of the time with him.”

General manager Martin Mayhew echoed Rivera's sentiments and believes it won't be long until Stromberg sees the field for the Commanders.

“The offense is still coming together with Eric [Bieniemy] being new, but he's very versatile," Mayhew said. "The kid is very smart. I don't think he's gonna have a hard time catching up to NFL football, NFL terminology. I think he's gonna pick things up very quickly and the guy's powerful. He's strong. He's athletic enough. I think he's gonna help us pretty soon.”

Stromberg has some aspects to his game that need to develop in Washington, but the Commanders have faith that he will be able to blossom into a legitimate starter on the offensive line.
