FOX's Emmanuel Acho to Eric Bieniemy: Coaching Commanders 'Dumbest Thing' You Can Do

The Washington Commanders are hiring Eric Bieniemy as an assistant head coach and offensive coordinator. But many outside the organization are criticizing the move.
In this story:

The Washington Commanders are hiring Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy as the team's assistant head coach.

After winning two Super Bowls and consistently leading one of the league's best offenses for the past five years in Kansas City, Bieniemy's contract expired with the Chiefs and the Commanders jumped on the opportunity to add him.

While the Commanders are thrilled about adding Bieniemy to the staff, many outside the organization aren't fond of the move, including FOX Sports' Emmanuel Acho.

In a Twitter video rant, Acho said that coaching the Commanders was "the dumbest thing he can do."

Acho also explains that other members coaching in the Andy Reid coaching tree, specifically Doug Pederson and Matt Nagy (who's replacing Bieniemy in Kansas City as offensive coordinator) have gone on to head coaching positions, but Bieniemy has not.

Despite interviewing for 14 teams over the past three seasons for a promotion, Bieniemy has fallen short of being hired to a promotion. And many of the coaches Bieniemy has been passed up for have been Caucasian, while Bieniemy is Black.

Acho explains that his move to Washington won't change his resume or his Blackness, so why leave the defending Super Bowl champions to coach the middling Commanders?

There could be more behind the scenes that outsiders aren't privy to that explains his reasoning to leave Kansas City.

But as of today, Bieniemy is the new assistant head coach of the Commanders, hoping to replicate similar success that he had with the Chiefs in hopes of one day finally securing that lucrative head coaching role, even if it is the "dumbest thing" he can do.
