Lakers Icon Magic Johnson: 'I Need a Commanders Super Bowl Ring!'
Few athletes in the history of sports brought a more grand combination of style and substance to their game than NBA legend Magic Johnson.
And now he's talking the talk - hopefully before walking the walk - about doing the same in Washington.
"I got a ring in every sport,'' Magic said recently. "But I need a Super Bowl ring!''
Johnson is part of a potential ownership group that is looking to buy the Commanders. He is joined by Philadelphia 76ers team owner Josh Harris in bidding for the NFL franchise (with Robert Griffin III also involved), and they have already submitted a bid that reportedly matches outgoing owner Dan Snyder’s $6 billion asking price.
There remain a number of moving parts here as it related to the beleaguered Snyder; this transaction has been rumored to be "on the verge'' of happening for weeks, and to some degree, Snyder is biding his time ...
Obviously hoping to get the most he can for the franchise.
In the meantime, coach Ron Rivera is among the Washington leaders who have been frank about how the Commanders sit in limbo in some ways, awaiting movement.
And Magic - who has had success not only as an all-time great with the Los Angeles Lakers but is also part of the "face of the franchise'' of the ownership group of the L.A. Dodgers - is ready to move.
"I would love to be the owner of the Commanders, to not only do great work on the field but do the work we can do with the city,'' Johnson said.
