Meet Emmanuel Forbes, Commanders Newest CB & NCAA Record Holder

The Washington Commanders made Emmanuel Forbes the newest member of the team with the No. 16 pick in the NFL Draft.
In this story:

Emmanuel Forbes is the newest member of the Washington Commanders after being selected with the No. 16 overall pick Thursday night.

Forbes was the second cornerback off the board after Illinois' Devon Witherspoon was taken with the No. 5 pick by the Seattle Seahawks. Even with Oregon Ducks prodigy Christian Gonzalez on the board, who was taken with the very next pick by the New England Patriots, the Commanders went with the guy they wanted in Forbes.

The biggest knock on Forbes coming into the draft was his size. Standing 6-foot and weighing 166 pounds, the Mississippi State product is one of the smallest players coming into the class, but he is also one of the most "deceiving," according to SI Draft Bible.

"The high-energy leader of the Bulldogs' defense has the speed to tag along with any receiver in the nation," SI Draft Bible writes. "His backpedal and fluid hips are also two key ingredients to his success. Forbes is strong in man coverage and even better in zone due to his football intelligence."

The biggest positive going for Forbes is his playmaking ability. He recorded an NCAA record for pick-sixes with six during his three years at Mississippi State.

Forbes may struggle with his size, but he has NFL-like tendencies that the Commanders hope will translate on the professional level.
