The Washington Commanders made Emmanuel Forbes' dream come true Thursday by selecting him as the No. 16 pick of the 2023 NFL Draft.

For Forbes and his family, the phone call from head coach Ron Rivera informing him that he had been selected was life-changing.

“It was really exciting, honestly, just knowing it's changing my life helping me and my family out and I'm just ready to get to work with the team,” Forbes said.

Forbes comes from a big family. As one of 10 siblings, Forbes opted to spend draft weekend at home with his family to celebrate rather than attend the official festivities in Kansas City.

“I was surrounded by a lot of people, but my mom and my dad and my sister and my godmothers right next to me," Forbes said. "It was just a lot of friends, family and close ones and old teammates there with me. So it was really enjoyable.

“I just have a real big family, you know. A lot of friends and family that wasn't going to be able to come to Kansas City, so I decided to do it at home.”

Now, Forbes is part of an even bigger family with the Commanders, as he headlines the newest class of draft picks who also will have their lives change over the weekend.
