Washington BREAKING: Lakers Legend Magic Johnson Wants to Buy Into Dan Snyder's Commanders
It would be a literally "magic'' twist on Washington Commanders history.
Earvin “Magic” Johnson has joined the field of bidders for the Washington Commanders NFL franchise, partnering as part of a group led by Josh Harris, who is involved in the ownership of the NBA's 76ers and the NHL's Devils, according to multiple reports.
Johnson, the legendary former NBA star and high-profile sports investor, would turn upside down the Commanders' reputation - one that to Washington's credit has been a focus of fixing in recent years - as a "toxic'' and non-progressive business under present owner Dan Snyder, who is preparing to sell the franchise.
This is not the first foray of Harris and Johnson teaming in attempting to buy into the NFL; they fell short of taking over the Denver Broncos last year.
Johnson, an accomplished businessman beyond his sterling reputation as an athlete, would apparently not only be an investor but might also contribute in other ways should his group win the bid for the Commanders bid.
Current owner Snyder is of course burdened by assorted accusations and investigations regarding improprieties of a financial and behavioral nature.
It has been rumored that a possible sale could occur this week, in advance of the of the NFL owners meetings in Arizona, which commence on March 27.
There has been pressure on Snyder from other owners to sell the franchise, and even some movement to force him out of the NFL.
Johnson, 63, has been involved in sports management with his former NBA team, the Los Angeles Lakers, and in sports ownership as part of the Los Angeles Dodgers, in addition to an assortment of other business successes.
