Commanders Free Agent Contracts Payment Delayed; Dan Snyder Sale Coming?
Another hint towards owner Dan Snyder selling the Washington Commanders has been revealed.
According to a report from Ben Standig of The Athletic, there is an unusual characteristic of recent Commanders contracts that, "makes sense in conjunction with owner Dan Snyder's anticipated franchise sell-by date."
Instead of the first payment period coming in 15-30 days like it has in the past, the first payment has been delayed to May 12.
There is some schedule-related sense to such a thing happening in the coming days as it would be handy for the March 27-29 owners meetings in Arizona to be the site and scene of an announcement of the new franchise leadership.
The Snyders announced in November that they were considering selling all or some of the franchise, triggering a start-and-stop series of activities that became controversial in their own ways, including Snyder's alleged unwillingness to sell to Amazon's Jeff Bezos due to a personal grudge.
Josh Harris and Mitchell Rales are involved in a group that might end up buying the franchise. And Snyder is still involved in investigations about his behavior, financial and otherwise.
Pending the sale to Bezos, Harris and Rales or whomever, it appears that Snyder won't be the one signing off on checks for the Commanders for much longer.
