Commanders DT Abdullah Anderson 'Can't Wait' to Start with New Team
The Washington Commanders are adding some reinforcements to the defensive line.
The team announced that it had signed former Atlanta Falcons defensive tackle Abdullah Anderson to a deal. Details surrounding his contract have yet to be revealed.
Anderson shared his excitement to join the Commanders in a Twitter video.
Anderson, 27, went undrafted in the 2018 NFL Draft and signed with the Chicago Bears in free agency. He spent his first three years in the league with the Bears before he was cut. He signed with the Minnesota Vikings midway through the 2020 season, but began bouncing around practice squads in 2021.
During his 2021 tour, Anderson spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans before reverting back to the Green Bay Packers and played three games that year.
In 2022, Anderson found a more permanent home with the Falcons, playing in 16 games this past season. In the box score, Anderson recorded 40 tackles and a sack while playing in 41 percent of the team's defensive snaps.
Anderson is a quiet depth signing that brings little to no risk and only reward for the Washington defensive line.
With the Commanders, Anderson will compete for a spot in a crowded defensive tackle rotation with Jonathan Allen, newly-signed Daron Payne, pseudo-rookie Phidarian Mathis, International Player Pathway signee David Bada, Efe Obada, Benning Potoa'e and John Ridgeway.
