Commanders QB Jacoby Brissett Excited For 'Fresh Start' With Washington
The Washington Commanders have a new quarterback in former Cleveland Browns signal caller Jacoby Brissett.
With Carson Wentz and Taylor Heinicke moving on, Washington needed reinforcements, leading them to Brissett.
The veteran now finds himself on his fifth team, but what is he most excited about regarding his new environment?
"Honestly, the fresh start," Brissett said. "Obviously, EB's (Eric Bieniemy) track record and what he's been able to accomplish throughout his coaching career. I'm excited for this journey and excited for this opportunity."
With Bieniemy now taking over an offense that, at times last year, was struggling to make an impact in games, Brissett could be the player to benefit from the former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator the most.
With Sam Howell seen as the future for some, having a veteran like Brissett can only be good for the quarterback room. Even Brissett stated that being a "good teammate" is high on his priority list.
That could mean being a mentor to Howell or being a fierce competitor with the soon-to-be second year quarterback.
But Brissett's path to Washington was one full of unknowns.
With a host of teams looking for a backup quarterback, Brissett had just two goals in mind regarding his outlook for the offseason.
"One, to have a job," Brissett said jokingly. "Two, to just find a good fit, find a good opportunity, and then everything else takes care of itself. That's what I was looking for, a new start, a new opportunity to continue to grow as a man, player, and teammate, and this (Washington) felt like the right fit."
It certainly feels like Brissett is comfortable with his decision to join Washington and begin the next chapter in his NFL career.
What his role on the team will be is going to make for interesting viewing, but right now, Brissett is just happy to still be in the NFL system.
