Who's Commanders Best Player? 3 Named to PFF's Top 101 List

The Washington Commanders had three entries in the Pro Football Focus top 101 list. Which players made the cut?
In this story:

The Washington Commanders have talent all over the board from the receiver corps to the pass rush, secondary and beyond.

But which player is Washington's best from this past season?

Pro Football Focus ranked the top 101 players in the NFL this season, and three Commanders popped up on the list.

Defensive back Kamren Curl was ranked No. 93, one spot behind Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.

"Curl was excellent at safety in just 12 games this past season, earning PFF grades of at least 80.0 in three separate areas," PFF writes. "He missed only four tackles all year and was a consistent presence in coverage from a variety of different alignments."

Curl could have been higher had he played more games, but his limited action on the field was noticed.

The next entry on the list was wide receiver Terry McLaurin, who landed six spots higher than Curl at No. 87.

"Yet again, McLaurin had to endure rough quarterback play in a season, and yet again he showed he can produce regardless," PFF writes. "McLaurin caught 67.0% of the passes thrown his way in 2022 and led the team’s receivers by a distance with 2.04 yards per route run."

The top entry for the Commanders came in at No. 42, where pass rusher Montez Sweat made an appearance.

"With Chase Young out for almost all of the season, Sweat was the Commanders' primary source of edge pressure this season," PFF writes. "Sweat accumulated 62 total pressures and 30 defensive stops, earning 83.8-plus PFF grades in both facets of play."

Surprising omissions from the list were defensive tackles Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne, both of whom made the Pro Bowl. However, that simply goes to show how deep the Commanders are and how much of a silent threat they can be in 2023.
