Commanders' Terry McLaurin Reacts to Blowout Loss vs. Bills: 'They Whooped Us!'

The Washington Commanders were brought back down to earth in a 37-3 blowout home loss to the Buffalo Bills in a game that saw the home team get obliterated in stunning fashion.

The Washington Commanders' perfect start to the season was abruptly halted by Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills in devastating fashion at FedEx Field.

The 37-3 blowout loss was a brutal reality check for the Commanders as the Bills laid a good old-fashioned beat-down.

For Commanders receiver Terry McLaurin, such a result forces players to look in the mirror.

“I think it just forces everyone to look in the mirror,” McLaurin said. “How do we make sure this doesn’t happen again, they came in here and they whooped us. You gotta give them credit for that, that’s why they’re the team they’ve been for so long because they're going to force you to beat them and when we’re beating ourselves in certain situations, not capitalizing on certain opportunities, it makes it that much harder to beat championship teams.”

The Commanders, in truth, never gave themselves a shot against the Bills. The offensive line gave up nine (yes, nine) sacks, while Sam Howell threw four interceptions and the offense only converted one of nine third downs on the day.

After a 2-0 start to the season, Washington was handed a brutal reminder of what is needed to compete against the very best.

It will be a learning experience for the team and McLaurin states that they have the leaders in the locker room to get past this type of result but hinted that with a loss like this, it's up to the team to show that's not who they are as a unit.

“I think we’re all going to look in the mirror and see how we can get better this week from top to bottom,” McLaurin said. “I think the good thing is that we have a good group of guys from top to bottom and we’re going to have to really focus on what we have to do individually to get better. But you never want to come out and put that kind of showing up, that’s not the team that we are, but if we want to make sure that we’re not the team we are, we got to come back better next week.”

The Commanders will have to pick themselves up off the canvas as they travel to Lincoln Financial Field to face the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
