Commanders Ex Carson Wentz 'Received Interest' in Signing; NFL Return Soon?

Carson Wentz was cut by the Washington Commanders in February. However, he is still looking for a new team and could sign soon.
In this story:

Former Washington Commanders quarterback Carson Wentz remains unsigned after the team cut him in late February after one season in the nation's capital.

Wentz underperformed while with the Commanders, throwing for just 1,755 yards, 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions in eight games with the team. The team ultimately decided to move forward with Sam Howell rather than try another year of the Wentz experiment.

Even though Wentz has been unsigned thus far, ESPN reports that he is working out and preparing for the season on his own.

"He’s been working out in L.A. in preparation for the season, he’s received interest from teams and he might wait longer into the offseason to see what develops. But he’s open to starter or backup roles," ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler tweeted.

There aren't too many teams without a true solution at the starting quarterback spot for the upcoming season, but there are a few teams that could look to sign a veteran backup.

"The Cincinnati Bengals, Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants all presently have just two QBs under contract," Bleacher Report writes. "Any of the three could sign another quarterback before training camp."

The one team that could look into the idea of starting Wentz could be the Arizona Cardinals, who will likely be without Kyler Murray (torn ACL) for a good chunk of the season. The other options on the roster include David Blough, Jeff Driskel, Colt McCoy and fifth-round rookie Clayton Tune.

That being said, the offseason is long and injuries are bound to happen. When they do, Wentz will be an available option to teams with a need at quarterback.
