Chiefs vs. 49ers: Will Former Commanders Star Chase Young Win Super Bowl?
Today, the Kansas City Chiefs play the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl in the biggest game of the former Washington Commanders' defensive end Chase Young’s career.
Young started the season in Washington but was traded to San Francisco around the deadline for a third-round pick, so should Commanders fans even expect him to have an impact, or was he simply a draft bust? Let’s review his career to see how he got to this moment.
Back in 2020, Young was the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft and considered a future All-Pro after two straight seasons with double digits sack totals during his time playing as an Ohio State Buckeye and was in the Heisman discussion his final season, which would’ve made him the second defensive player to have ever won the most prestigious award in college football.
The freakish prospect was thought to be better than both Nick and Joey Bosa (fellow Buckeyes), and Young lived up to the hype in his first season with the Commanders by winning Defensive Rookie of the Year, just as the Bosa brothers did before him.
Unfortunately, though, injuries would limit Young to only playing in 12 games for Washington over the next two seasons, and this year, the team would choose to move on from the man who once looked like a defensive pillar for the franchise.

Now with the 49ers, Young's season sack total of 7.5 is the highest since his rookie year and playing alongside his former college teammate Nick Bosa, the two will attempt to win a championship, something that they fell short of in college.
Watch the Super Bowl on CBS today at 6:30 p.m. ET to see if the Commanders' former star wins his first championship.
