Commanders Coach Target Mike Macdonald: 'Defensive Sean McVay', Says Insider
The Washington Commanders want to get their next move right and are turning over every potential stone to make sure they know all the options before choosing the next head coach to lead the team.
One of those stones came from just up the road and the Baltimore Ravens in defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald who reportedly had an in-person interview with the Commanders Monday night.
While he left there without a deal to coach Washington moving forward, it doesn't mean he's eliminated. Rather the team, led by managing partner Josh Harris, is going through with more interviews Tuesday and many expect will decide by the end of the week.
With Macdonald, however, they may have found the right guy for the job as reviews of his interviews are coming back with high praise from inside NFL decision-maker circles.
"I talked to a couple of teams who interviewed him," Ian Rapoport said on NFL Networks The Insiders on Tuesday. "It sounds like he has been really dynamic in some of these interviews. I had one person involved with one of the head coach searches said, 'This was the best interview we had, by far.' He is young, he is bright, sort of the defensive (Los Angeles Rams coach) Sean McVay is how he was described to me."

Macdonald is meeting with the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday and while many have pegged Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn for that posting Rapoport says the match between that team and the Ravens coach is, "one to watch."
Meanwhile, Washington is continuing its search by interviewing Quinn on Tuesday along with a planned trip to Detroit to interview Lions coordinators Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn.
