Commanders Investigation Released; Dan Snyder Fined Record-Setting Amount
Washington Commanders history took place Thursday as Josh Harris became the new principal owner of the franchise.
The sale is a culmination of years of misconduct largely perpetrated by former Commanders owner Dan Snyder himself or at best occurring under his watch, according to allegations.
As news of the sale spread like wildfire, so too it broke that Snyder has been fined $60 million as a result of the findings revealed in Mary Jo White’s investigation into workplace misconduct.
The report first came from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero who quoted commissioner Roger Goodell as saying, “The conduct substantiated in Ms. White’s findings has no place in the NFL…We strive for workplaces that are safe, respectful and professional. What Ms. Johnston experienced is inappropriate and contrary to the NFL’s values.”
Tiffani Johnson is a former employee of the team who accused Snyder of unwelcome physical contact and unwanted sexual advances after a business dinner.
Snyder denied the allegations, as he did with most or all of the others, but clearly the Mary Jo White Investigation revealed sufficient evidence to levy a record-setting fine on Snyder.
This follows a fine of $10 million the team had to pay in 2021 that was record-setting at the time which came after another investigation in the team revealed a hostile workplace thrived in Washington, especially for employees that were women.
That fine was put toward, “organizations committed to character education, anti-bullying and healthy relationships,” according to a report at the time.
It’s unknown right now where the $60 million will go once paid, but it’s a staggering amount being paid as an exit fee of sorts for the now former Commanders owner.
And a solid close to give Harris and his group nowhere to go but up as the new football owners in Washington D.C.
