Commanders Coach Eric Bieniemy Bringing 'Enthusiasm' to Washington, Says Ron Rivera
During the offseason, Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy made a surprising switch to the Washington Commanders. In what some called a "sideways" move, Bieniemy is now the play caller for his own ship.
After seeing so much success with the Chiefs over the last few seasons, Bieniemy will be looking to take ahold of a Washington offense that has shown promise and take them up a level.
With the arrival of Bieniemy into the offensive coaching set-up, the team has an air of confidence heading into the offseason, according to head coach Ron Rivera.
"I think a lot of it has to do with what we've done on the offensive side, bringing in Coach [Eric] Bieniemy," Rivera said. "I think Eric has brought some optimism and you listen to the guys talk about it. That's been exciting. It really has, so very encouraged by that. I kind of like where we are in terms of our positions. I like the players that we have. I'm just feeling positive about it.”
That confidence likely stems from Bieniemy's track record with the Chiefs. The Commanders have decent weapons for Bieniemy to utilize next season.
Receivers in Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, and Curtis Samuel headline the offense. Running back Brian Robinson Jr. and Sam Howell have shown plenty to suggest they can also put their best foot forward next season.
With Washington holding the No.16 pick in the upcoming NFL draft, the franchise is in a good position to take the best player available regardless of position. Some mock drafts have Washington going defense, but they could also opt for another offensive weapon.
Whichever way the Commanders go, there will be a fresh sense of optimism heading into the season as the franchise has made all the right moves this offseason...with the hiring of Bieniemy being one.
