Commanders Coach Eric Bieniemy Brings Energy 'Every Single Day!' Says QB Sam Howell
Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has been getting used to his new surroundings during OTA's. After swapping Kansas City for the nation's capital, Bieniemy has his work cut out to implement his style of offense on the current group.
While it is still early in the offseason, there have already been signs of what Bieniemy brings to the table on the field, and for new starting quarterback Sam Howell, his offensive coordinator brings energy ... and a lot of it.
“He brings that energy every single day, we try to feed on that, and we try to bring our own energy as well," Howell said. "We try to come outta practice every day and get ready to go and have the right mindset. We're just trying to follow EB's lead, and he is doing a really good job.”
Bieniemy takes over an offense ranked 24th in the NFL for points scored per game (18.9) last season with weapons such as Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, Curtis Samuel, and running back Brian Robinson Jr., which is far from enough and we can bet that Bieniemy will want all more involved next season.
Obviously, there were some extenuating circumstances to the low points total per game, one being the revolving door at quarterback, but now, Howell is settled as the starter.
That alone can bring a sense of calm to an offense with playmakers everywhere you look. It's just getting them in positions to make use of their skill.
With Washington's OTA's wrapping up, Howell has made good progress thus far, and Bieniemy, along with head coach Ron Rivera, have liked what they have seen from the second-year quarterback.
Football is fun when your winning, but during the offseason, there are no games, so when the energy levels are up, things run a lot smoother, and Bieniemy seems to be the lightning rod for the Commanders' feel-good vibe right now.
