Commanders to Unleash Even More 'Scary Terry' McLaurin Under Coach Eric Bieniemy?
Washington Commanders receiver Terry McLaurin has been a standout in the offense for a while now, and last season, even with the quarterback situation up in the air, he produced a career year.
McLaurin received his first Pro Bowl selection and had a career-high in receiving yards (1,191). That was with Carson Wentz and Taylor Heinicke and Sam Howell all taking turns at QB.
But now, with the position theoretically far more settled as Howell is projected to be Washington's starter (at least heading into OTA's and training camp), will we see McLaurin level up his game yet again?
With former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy taking over from Scott Turner, many expect the Commanders' offense to be vastly improved.
But ...
In Bieniemy's five years as offensive coordinator, the Chiefs had Tyreek Hill as the 1,000-yard threat (not including tight end Travis Kelce). Will McLaurin be the "Hill-like'' receiver in this offense and get 1,000 receiving yards under Bieniemy?
That will be the hope, as McLaurin has had three consecutive seasons of 1,000+ yards in his four-year career.
Further emergence of Jahan Dotson, Curtis Samuel, and Brian Robinson Jr. will no doubt help the cause. Coupled with Bieniemy's offensive mind, McLaurin could be set for a big year for Washington.
His deep-threat ability could also be utilized by Bieniemy as last season, nine times McLaurin had a reception of 30+ yards, with six of them being for a 40+ yard gain.
There is a lot of optimism surrounding the franchise this offseason with the sale of the team and Howell as the starter, but don't forget Washington's biggest offensive weapon in McLaurin, who is poised to improve on his superb season last year... and that could be scary.
