Commanders' Eric Bieniemy Reveals Coaching Philosophy

Eric Bieniemy has been the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator for the past five seasons. Now, he takes his whistle with him to the nation's capital to join the Washington Commanders.
In this story:

In the fray of all the player movement free agency has brought, one of the most underrated acquisitions of the offseason stays out of the limelight ... the Washington Commanders hiring Eric Bieniemy as the new offensive coordinator.

In an open letter on the Commanders website, Bieniemy shared part of his story to get to this point and a little about how and why he coaches the way he does.

"I pride myself on this: I coach hard, but I coach fair," Bieniemy wrote. "I'm gonna be your biggest advocate, but I'm also gonna be your harshest critic. I do all that out of love. I have a high standard because I know what it takes to succeed in this league, and there are a few things that describe who I am as a coach."

Bieniemy's philosophy holds credence. In the last five years as the offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs, Bieniemy has had his unit rank amongst the top-five in every season. He also has led the Chiefs offense to a pair of Super Bowl rings and another appearance on top of that.

Now, Bieniemy is bringing his talents to the Commanders, where he hopes to find shades of his Chiefs success within Washington's core, led by second-year quarterback Sam Howell.
