Commanders' Adam Peters, Dan Quinn Praised by 49ers' Super Bowl Coach Kyle Shanahan
If you look to find a shared relationship between Washington Commanders general manager Adam Peters and coach Dan Quinn it doesn't take long for you to land on San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan.
Before joining the Commanders, Peters and Shanahan worked together starting in 2017 when they both joined John Lynch who became the general manager of the 49ers that same year.
In 2019, the trio led San Francisco to the Super Bowl, something that the franchise achieved again this season and Washington hopes to in the near future.
"Adam (AP) was huge," Shanahan said to Candi Waller of BowieTV who asked the coach about the impact Peters has made on the current championship-contending roster. "I mean, AP, me, John, we all got here right after the Super Bowl in (2017) from Atlanta we came here and met for dinner, first time really all getting in-person to know each other. And we needed all of us together and AP was huge. He helped John out a ton, he helped me out a ton, and Washington's got a hell of a deal in AP."
While this Super Bowl trip is Shanahan's second with the 49ers it's his third overall with his first coming as the offensive coordinator of the Atlanta Falcons. Of course, the head coach of that team was new Commanders leader, Dan Quinn.
Quinn hired Shanahan to come with him to the Falcons in 2015 upon getting the lead job there.
Inheriting a team that finished with a 6-10 record the year prior Quinn and Shanahan led Atlanta to a .500 record in their first season together followed by an 11-win year that culminated with a Super Bowl loss to the New England Patriots.
Bag of Tricks? Quinn Eying More Commanders Staff Additions
Shanahan left to lead the 49ers after that year and the impact Quinn made on him went with him.
"Having AP and DQ (Dan Quinn) is as good as it gets," Shanahan also said. "Dan taught me so much in Atlanta, I'm very grateful for how much he's helped my career...and just what he's going to do for that organization knowing Adam - knowing him - they're set up very well."
Now, Shanahan's former colleagues have a chance to do what he couldn't in the nation's capital ... build a team with a playoff pedigree.
