The Washington Commanders are likely to end their coaching search soon now that they can interview their final candidates for the position.

The favorite for the position has been Detroit Lions coach Ben Johnson, and NBC Sports' Peter King believes it's a foregone conclusion that he ends up being hired by the Commanders.

"The coaching/coaching-agent industry is sold that Detroit offensive coordinator Ben Johnson will get the Commanders' job," King says. "Along with drafting a quarterback at No. 2 overall (or somewhere if new GM Adam Peters trades out of two), Washington owner Josh Harris seems likely to bury the Dan Snyder Era once and for all.

Johnson has been one of the top candidates in this coaching cycle, interviewing for nearly every vacancy. The Lions ranked fifth in points in both seasons with Johnson as the offensive coordinator.

With the Lions eliminated from the playoffs at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship, the path for Johnson to become Washington's next coach now becomes more clear.
