Commanders' Josh Harris Has 'Real Vision,' Says Jason Wright
The Washington Commanders are just a few days into the Josh Harris era, one that should be transformative for the franchise.
It remains to be seen what kinds of changes Harris will implement, but it is known that change is afoot.
President Jason Wright expects to be part of that change and is excited about the moves Harris is set to implement.
"I've gotten to work with him in a very short manner of time in these last few weeks, and I found him to be introspective, thoughtful, and methodical, but deeply committed to winning and deeply passionate about investing in the community," Wright said. "He has a real vision for us, and it's going to change the way that we've operated for some time, and it's going to be meaningful to all of you."
Wright became the first Black team president when the Commanders tabbed him to fill the role in August of 2020. Under his leadership, Washington ditched the temporary nickname of "Washington Football Team" and transitioned to the Commanders in February of 2022.
Like coach Ron Rivera and general manager Martin Mayhew, Wright will seemingly be given the entirety of the 2023 season to prove to Harris that he should retain his job for the foreseeable future. You do wonder if Rivera and Wright, specifically, will be given a long leash as a thanks for taking their respective positions in the midst of turmoil under Snyder's ownership. There's, of course, nothing legally binding in a sale that would force Harris to keep any employees he wants to move on from. But it's pretty clear that Harris is giving the current high-ranking employees a shot.
