Commanders' Josh Harris Reveals 'Winning' Philosophy

Josh Harris is ready to build a winner with the Washington Commanders.
In this story:

Washington Commanders owner Josh Harris knows a thing or two about running a sports franchise.

For Harris, owning a professional sports franchise is nothing new, as he has headed up the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA since 2011. (And he owns the NHL's New Jersey Devils as well.)

Harris shared what he believes is the best way to run a winning pro sports franchise at his introductory press conference.

"I think obviously what I've learned from the Sixers, the Devils and other things is that you win championships with the best people in the front office, the best coaching staff," Harris said. "You win by investing. You win by creating a fan experience where people want to come out and support the team. This is really hard. And you win by creating an amazing culture, which we talked about is about respect, inclusivity and diversity."

It's safe to say that Dan Snyder did not run the franchise with respect, inclusivity and diversity always on his mind. "Ethically challenged behaviors" ran rampant under Snyder and caused him to be fined $60 million as he exited the door as Washington's owner following an investigation by former U.S. Attorney and SEC Chair Mary Jo White.

That's exactly the opposite of what Harris and his partners are trying to build.
