Commanders' Kam Curl Reflects on Top NFL, Collegiate WR Challenges

Washington Commanders safety Kamren Curl recently shared his list of top receivers he's faced in college and in the NFL including Philadelphia Eagles players A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, and new Baltimore Ravens star Odell Beckham Jr.

Outside of ownership news most Washington Commanders fans are hoping to hear contract developments for one of their favorite players ahead of this month's NFL Training Camp.

Safety Kamren Curl has carved out more than a fan favorite status with the Commanders since coming out of the Arkansas Razorbacks program as a seventh-round NFL Draft pick in 2020.

He's turned himself into a defensive weapon in Washington and the team is clearly better with him on the field, than without.

While many are hoping for the best for Curl and praising his abilities, he took time to sit down during his final break before training camp with the Talk of the Town 918 podcast and share some praise for opposing receivers.

"No. 1 off the bat, Calvin Ridley. I had to play him my freshman year," Curl said. "He different...and then we had to play Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs, Jaylen Waddle we had to play them all three years at Arkansas...DeVonta Smith...A.J. Brown (is) real nice. We played Odell (Beckham Jr.) when he was (with) the Browns (and) he's like that, for real."

The Commanders had to face both Smith and Brown twice last year, and will do so again this year as NFC East Division rivals of the Philadelphia Eagles

Waddle and his Miami Dolphins will come to the DMV this coming season to visit Curl and his teammates as well, and a road trip to visit the Denver Broncos will be an SEC reunion of sorts with Jeudy a key member of that offense.

While Curl smiled a bit while sharing those names, if Washington is going to be smiling after each game they'll need their safety and his defensive teammates to be on their game.

Thanks to research done by The Washington Times' Matthew Paras we know the Commanders allowed a full touchdown more per game without Curl than with him, and had a losing record to go with it.

You'd think that information alone might inspire a new deal between player and team, and perhaps it may as coach Ron Rivera has stated he's in a sort of freeze until the new ownership group comes in.

If Washington's new regime wants to start with a win, then re-signing Curl to a fair deal is a strong first step.

One that will make he and the fans happy, and will ensure the Commanders have top coverage to help stop the likes of Brown, Smith, and the rest of the NFL's top weapons for years to come.
