Washington Commanders veteran tight end Logan Thomas is recovering after suffering a big hit that knocked him out of Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos.

Thomas caught a touchdown pass but was hit in the head by Broncos defensive back Kareem Jackson.

“It was helmet to helmet, it was obvious," Rivera said. "It was a heck of a catch and the fact that he was able to hold on and that he was able to do that was great.”

Thomas is a player who has dealt with injuries often throughout his career.

With Thomas catching 39 passes for 323 yards and a touchdown last season, it was a slow burn as he recovered from a calf injury last season as well as working his way back from an ACL tear in 2021.

Unfortunately, injuries are just the name of the game at this time of year, and it is unlucky as Thomas had shown some good things during training camp.

This is due, in part, to offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy's system, which puts a heavy emphasis on the tight end position, as Thomas was a favorite target for Howell in red zone drills during the offseason.

“You know, he's a guy that we wanted to be careful with first and foremost," Rivera said earlier in the season. "So the thing that we've gotta be aware of is just he is an older guy. He is coming off an injury. Yes, it was two seasons ago, but you can't be too careful, especially in this situation and in this offense knowing just how vital the tight end is to this offense. You know, we've gotta be very smart about that.”

The Commanders will evaluate Thomas through the concussion protocol this week to try and see if he can return for Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills.
