Heading into training camp as an undrafted rookie receiver, Mitchell Tinsley's path to the Washington Commanders' 53-man roster appeared bleak.

That path became a reality with Tinsley's play throughout camp and the preseason. In Washington's final preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals, he had three catches for 89 yards and a touchdown. That effectively sealed his spot on the Commanders' roster heading into the regular season.

Tinsley's play impressed Washington's coaches and senior director of player personnel Eric Stokes.

"Certainly, excited though about some of the young talent like Mitchell Tinsley, for example, that did some excellent things as we went through this entire process," Stokes said. "I mean, literally from day one, as you go back to as we had our rookie meeting camp to progressing all the way through the training camp and preseason."

Washington signed Tinsely as an undrafted free agent out of Penn State, where he was a teammate of Jahan Dotson. In his final season as a Nittany Lion, Tinsley had 51 catches for 577 yards and five touchdowns.

Along with Dotson and the currently injured Terry McLaurin, there are a few receivers seemingly ahead of Tinsley, including Curtis Samuel, Dyami Brown and Byron Pringle.

With the momentum of his last preseason outing and McLaurin potentially missing time with a toe injury, there could be an opening for Tinsley to earn playing time if he continues to impress.

After all, Tinsley likely wasn't expected to force the Commanders' hand with their 53-man roster. Who's to say he won't see meaningful snaps this season if he continues to impress Washington?
