Commanders New Owner Josh Harris: What's His 'Learning Curve'?
The Washington Commanders have undergone swift alterations this offseason, but none more significant than the impending ownership change as Dan Snyder is to be officially out and Josh Harris and his group are in.
For Harris, owning a professional sports franchise is nothing new, as he has headed up the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA since 2011. (And he owns the NHL's New Jersey Devils as well.) For SI.com's Albert Breer, due to Harris' previous involvement at the highest level, there will be no great educational climb for Harris once he takes over Washington.
"Harris shouldn’t have the learning curve most NFL owners do, because he had to learn the ropes, and stub his toe a bunch, in his stewardship of the NBA’s Sixers and NHL’s Devils. He’s also got an intimate understanding of the psyche of the fan base since he was a part of it growing up in the D.C. suburbs," SI's Albert Breer writes.
The Commanders, for many, have been a laughing stock of the NFL over the last decade due in part to Snyder's alleged off-field incidents. But now there appears to be a blue sky on the horizon.
Harris takes over from Snyder, Eric Bieniemy is now the offensive coordinator, and the Commanders on the field have reason to be optimistic about what could be accomplished next season.
Starting at the top and working down, Washington feels like it is finally in a good place, and with Harris at the helm and having a good track record, there is reason for Commanders' fans to be happy at the current state of their organization. ... Something that it can be argued hasn't been said around here in a long, long time.
